At the SABAG Luzern AG site in Rothenburg, NRG Solutions AG has delivered a modular large-scale battery storage system rated at 3.45 MW and 5 MWh. The system stabilises the power grid and is designed for step-by-step expansion with photovoltaics and charging infrastructure. WWZ operates and markets the storage system.
In the first operating phase, the battery storage system provides ancillary services (SDL) to stabilise the Swiss power grid. As a fast, flexible reserve, it balances short-term fluctuations between electricity supply and demand and thus contributes to security of supply.
Further expansion stages will integrate a photovoltaic system and charging infrastructure for electromobility. The storage system will then also optimise on-site self-consumption and reduce costly load peaks.
NRG Solutions was responsible for the entire delivery, from planning and the supply of the power technology through to installation and commissioning. The modular container storage system can be flexibly adapted to the site and expanded as energy demand grows.
The project was realised in cooperation with SABAG Luzern AG as the site partner and WWZ, which operates and markets the system on the electricity market. With the Rothenburg project, NRG Solutions continues to expand its portfolio of large-scale battery storage systems realised in Central Switzerland.
“With the system in Rothenburg, we show how a battery storage system becomes an economically viable profit centre: it stabilises the grid, lowers energy costs and creates the basis for solar power and electromobility on site.” Mathias Andermatt, CEO, NRG Solutions AG
“With the battery storage system from NRG Solutions, we contribute to stabilising the energy system while tapping into new economic potential.” Marco Schiavini, CEO, SABAG Luzern AG
NRG Solutions AG, headquartered in Root (LU), develops, builds and operates modular large-scale battery storage systems (BESS) for buildings, sites and energy supply. The independent Swiss company covers the entire value chain: from project development and the procurement of power technology to system integration, financing, operation and energy marketing through the NRG Group.
At its Rothenburg site, SABAG Luzern AG is relying on the battery storage system for a sustainable and economical energy supply for its premises.
WWZ is an energy and telecommunications provider operating in Central Switzerland. In this project, it is responsible for operating and marketing the battery storage system on the electricity market.
